Chris Porterfield

Chris Porterfield is of counsel to the firm and a member of the litigation practice group. Chris has handled sophisticated civil litigation in Georgia since first being admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2004. He focuses his practice in the areas of real estate litigation, commercial litigation, and property tax matters, but also advises individuals and companies as to a wide variety of other legal issues. Chris also heads the firm’s post-judgment collection group, using innovative and aggressive collection methods to recover money owed to the firm’s clients.

Chris has been advising small businesses and handling their litigation needs since first being admitted to practice. He is a well-respected practitioner regarding Georgia’s property tax laws, and has represented numerous clients involved in the large-scale purchase of property tax liens and tax foreclosure deeds, handling dozens of quiet title actions in the superior courts across the state. He has extensive experience in the appellate courts, and has authored many successful appellate briefs over the years.

Chris has handled hundreds of property tax valuation appeals in counties all over Georgia, taking dozens of appeals through contested litigation in the superior courts (recovering his attorneys’ fees from the government in most of those cases). Chris has handled several jury trials in tax appeal cases, yet to lose a jury verdict.

Chris particularly enjoys litigating on behalf of taxpayers against local governments and has handled several taxpayer class action lawsuits up through the appellate courts, most on a pro bono basis.

Prior to joining the firm, Chris was a partner with Proctor Hutchins Porterfield, where he began his litigation career after law school.

Chris is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Georgia. When not practicing law, he pretends to be a golfer.
